Slowly 2016 vintage’ s wines are on the shelves, One of the first wine from 2016 vintage is Dúzsi Merlot Rosé. Dúzsi Tamás is the winemaker from Szekszárd. He is “king of the rose” because he produces high volume of rose what are so popular in Hungary. Otherwise his red wines also excellent, he was the Winmaker of the year in 2014. Last year, on Vinalies Internationales his 2011 Görögszó Cuvée (cabernet sauvignon, franc) was the best red wine.
The wine got a clean and nice design, it seems like a pretty doll, or a nice skirt from the 50s. This project made by Hungarian graphic designers Kira Koroknai and Anna Hidvegi, who depict the manual harvesting brilliantly with these hand figures. The often mentioned “less is more” is presented in the bottle and on the bottle also.
I imagine drink from this wine on this Pre-Christmas period. Cold rosé in december? Why not? I think to do unusual things sometimes, make interest to the weekdays.
I am back after a long break, with more experience in maternity. This period gives possibility, to see wine from different perspectives, because consumpition must be paused 🙂
But this blog is about the colorful world of wine culture, and it should be exciting even if I could not drink a sip of wine. (Only temporary, of course! :))
Last weeks the Carpathian Basin was transformed to a hot cabin, with 38-40 dergree and we try to cool ourselves nearby water…
Lake Balaton is the “Hungarian Sea” which is one of the best place for that purpose. So we start our tour on the north coast, and between swimming and sunbathing, visited some biological and gastronomy attractions. Folly Botanical Garden is a fourth generation arboretum, and winery also, on Badacsonyörs. Badacsony is the wine region, what about i write in earlier posts. Vulcanic soil, special microclimate because of the lake, and tradtional varieties! On the pics you see a light white wine, called Budai zöld (local variety) what is gift for the visitors. On the background is the vineyard from which it comes. The wine is elegant, definite, but enough light in the hot Sunday afternoon.
Huge cedars, the air is filled with resin scent, the sound of cicadas and the view is amazing.
Can not miss nature lovers from bucket list!
Because of the mood of late spring time, when I see how green and lush the nature is, I think of the painters who can faithfully illustrate this kind of mood. Yesterday I saw an air balloon, and I remembered a painting of Szinyei Merse Pál – one of the Hungarian painter geniuses. And why not celebrate this masterpiece with a beautiful liquid masterpiece?
The wine is gold with linden honey fragrance, with flowers… I can’t stop smell it. The taste is creamy and friuty, like you put into your mouth the whole May nature. Beautiful and airy! For that very reason come it to my mind when i see the balloon. Csendes Dűlő Wine Estate is in Badacsony wine region, located in the North coast of Lake Balaton. I love the style of them, friendly family winery, nice wines naturally without frills.
These month are the time of wine regions’ wine competitions. In the last few weeks I took part of some of them and it was so instructive for me, and not just the wine, but the attitude of the judges.
One of the difference in the reviews was the use of the barrel, and therefore the style of the wine. Some homegrown variety lose its characteristic by the wood, or could not show the terroir. In Hungary we can taste wines which go agains the trends, and not just the light, easydrink and young ones, and I think it is good!
Next month Winelli started a survey, to measure how wine consumer think about it. Coming soon for details!
